Roland DG’s Substrate Index Report reveals UV printing as essential tool

Roland DG’s annual Substrate Index Report has revealed the fact that UV printing is fast becoming an essential tool to support popular items created by the printing industry. The annual survey of 140+ printing shops across Europe provides a realistic outlook of the evolution of the UV printing market over time. Printers are continuing to print on the most popular material – Plastic, with 68 percent of those polled using it at least once (68 percent closely followed by Metals (64 percent), PVC (60 percent), and Wood (58 percent).

These same four materials came out top overall in last year’s report, with a small drop in popularity of Plastic (-7 percent) and wood (-6 percent), while Metal (+10 percent) appears to have gained in popularity. Similarly, in terms of frequency of use, these materials are leading the pack, with almost a quarter (24 percent) of all respondents saying they print on both plastic and PVC at least once a week, 18 percent print on metals once a week, and 26 percent print on wood at least once a month.
