Gerber Technology has announced the introduction of the wide model version of its Gerbercutter GTxL. This system is designed to cut materials as wide as 2.2 metres (86 inches). It is ideal for manufacturers of fashion knitwear, specialty technical textiles and furniture where wide materials are often used. The company mentioned that ver the past few years, the trend has been toward smaller, quick-turn orders. At the same time, manufacturers are using wider materials to maximize material utilisation and to cut full-size parts that don’t require sewing.
The Gerbercutter GTxL wide is a low-ply conveyorised system capable of cutting up to 2.5 cm. of compressed material. It includes variable vacuum regulation to enable optimal material stability during cutting, resulting in extremely accurately cut parts with less energy consumption. The cutting head can be fitted with up to two optional drills – each accommodating bits up to 9.5 mm (3/8 in.) in diameter. An optional knife chiller keeps the blade cool during cutting which is critical when cutting fusible or heat-sensitive materials. The optional lateral travel kit moves the cutter among multiple spreading tables to optimise cutting throughput and efficiency.
