Durst acquires Callas software for pre-press automaton & PDF workflow

Durst Group has announced the acquisition of Callas software, a leading provider of prepress automation and PDF technologies, playing an essential role in many print workflows; either directly or as an OEM component in leading prepress products. With this acquisition, Durst has strengthened its software strategy, focusing on openness and connectivity within the printing industry. The objective of the acquisition is the intelligent, seamless automation between machines, software, and print processes. At the same time, callas (small ‘c’) software will remain autonomous in its management and product development.

Founded in Berlin in 1995, callas software GmbH specialises in developing PDF analysis and validation software. Over the past 30 years, the company has become a leading provider of PDF publishing, production, exchange and archiving technology. Callas technology is used by a wide range of well-known software developers, including Adobe, Quark, Kodak and Xerox, all of whom have integrated callas tools into their own products. With the acquisition, the Durst aims to intensify its strategy to build an open and connected software platform for the printing industry.
