Digidelta, a specialist manufacturer of digital printing, decoration, visual communication, and textile materials, has announced that its BIOND range of bio-based printable films has secured independent ‘OK bio-based’ certification from TÜV Austria, with testing confirming top ratings for renewable carbon content. The ‘OK biobased’ certification is an independent label that verifies how much of a product is made from renewable and plant-based sources, instead of fossil resources that are traditionally used to create materials commonly used in print and industrial applications. Certification is based on a material’s bio-based carbon content, measured using laboratory testing such as radiocarbon analysis under EN 16640/ASTM D6866 methods.
Materials are scored on the percentage of carbon that comes from renewable sources, with ratings ranging from one star up to four stars. The top-level, four-star rating, which requires an 80 percent score or higher, is reserved for the best-performing products as certified through TÜV Austria analysis. To date, four products within the BIOND collection have secured this rating. BIOND Clear Glossy was the highest scoring with 96 percent renewable carbon content. BIOND Clear Matte also scored highly at 95 percent with BIOND Clear Matte Embossed being rated at 94 percent and BIOND White Glossy/Matte at 80 percent. The new certification serves as evidence of the sustainable qualities of BIOND, offering independent clarification of its leading environmental features.
