World’s leading furniture retailer IKEA has spent Rs 1,000 crore over the past two years in creating infrastructure, including land and distribution centres, ahead of opening its first store in Indian in the middle of 2018. The investment is nearly 10 percent of its Rs 10,500-crore investment proposal that was cleared by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board to open 25 stores — each large enough to fit about four football fields — in the country by 2025. The Swedish retailer has spent Rs 984 crore in building fixed assets over the past two years ending March 2017, according to its latest filings with the Registrar of Companies. This expansion move of the furniture retailer will bring a fresh business opportunity for the signage companies engaging in in-store branding and related projects.
